Stan the Man

Stanley with one ear up and one ear down

"Dash," a 4 month old Schnauzer/Scottie mix was brought into the Atlanta Humane Society with his brother as a stray from the south Atlanta streets. His brother was adopted a week before him and my husband and I wandered into the shelter one day looking for a dog.

We took one look and fell in LOVE with this puppy who had one ear up and one ear down. We named him "Stanley" because, as my husband said, he looked like a little old man, especially with his long gray eyebrows sticking up.

We brought Stan home and all was well until he developed a bad cough and stopped eating. We learned that our poor little guy had pnemonia from living on the streets. Two thousand dollars later, after a stay at a vet specialist and four weeks of breathing treatments and antibiotics and chicken soup in our apartment, our little man slowly but surely got better and stronger.

Today, we live down in South Florida with Stanley (now 2 and a half years old), Chloe (our adopted poodle) and Henry (our adopted Chihuahua mix) and they are all the loves of our lives.

I have never met a more intelligent, special or sensitive dog than Stanley. When he demands treats or walks or more room on the bed, he does so with different inflections in his bark. He gives constant love and kisses and just seems to know what I'm thinking when I look at him.

Stanley had a rough start and my husband and I just feel so lucky to have this beautiful dog in our lives. Stanley is the only "person" in my life that can make me laugh after a long, frustrating day at work. I truly don't know what we'd do without him!
