Spanky

Spanky on his throne under Donna's desk

Spanky, a two year old German Shephard/Chow mix, lives here at Tri County Humane Society, a no-kill animal shelter in Boca Raton, Florida. The thing is, he doesn't even know he's in a shelter!

This so called "King of Tri County" actually almost didn't make it as a puppy. He was a stray and was hit by a car and left for dead at only 4 months old. Both of his back legs were broken and he was in dire need of medical attention.

No other animal shelter would take him in, afraid of the expensive costs associated with orthopedic surgery. Tri County stepped in and got him the medical treatment he needed. Our development director Donna agreed to have him recuperate in her office, where every day he made a little progress.

Fast forward two years later and Spanky rules the roost! He STILL lives in our main office, comfy and cozy in his dog bed right under Donna's desk. He gets kisses, walks and (too many) treats from our volunteers and staff. Because he can be aggresive with other dogs at times and pulls WAY too hard on a leash, it's been a little challenging to find him the right home. But I think at this point, you'd have to convince Spanky to leave Tri County! One of his favorite activities is splashing around in a bone-shaped dog pool outside.

Spanky is just one example, one story, that reminds us that each animal, every living thing, deserves a chance. We gave Spanky much more than that - he has a home.
