Reiki for Dogs:
What Exactly is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese holistic energy healing system that is gentle and noninvasive and yet yields powerful results for the body, mind and spirit.
How is Reiki Given?
When using Reiki to heal, the practitioner simply sets an intention to facilitate the healing process of the client and allows Reiki to flow in whatever amount the client wishes to receive and for whatever he or she needs most.
Why is Reiki so Ideal for Healing Animals?
Reiki is ideal for use with animals because it is gentle and noninvasive. It doesn't cause stress, discomfort, or pain, and yet yields powerful results. Animals respond intuitively to Reiki's power to heal emotional, behavioral, and physical illnesses and injuries.
For animals who are healthy, Reiki helps to maintain their health, enhances relaxation and provides an emotional sense of peace and contentment.
For animals who are ill, Reiki is a wonderful healing method as well as a safe complement to Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine, homeopathy (read our articles on canine homeopathy and homeopathy for dogs) , flower essences, and all other forms of healing. For example, Reiki can reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, support an acupuncture treatment, and enhance the effects of flower essences.
For dying animals, Reiki is a powerful yet gentle way to provide comfort, relief from pain, fear, and anxiety, and to ease the transition to death.
Can I Learn to Practice Reiki?
Anyone can learn to practice Reiki. After several energy attunements from a Master, Reiki energy begins flowing from the student's hands. The understanding of Reiki and how to use it deepens with practice. In addition to the healing it brings, using Reiki on your animal strengthens your bond with each other.
Using Reiki on yourself and others deepens your intuition and promotes inner growth and change. Reiki heals each animal in the ways needed most. As a practitioner, you don't need to know what needs healing in order to get powerful results. The healing power of Reiki is very effective, and yet simple to learn and use. Reiki is as accessible to the novice as it is to the expert. Although it seems complete at each level you experience it as a practitioner, you can continue to learn from it all your life.
If you are interested in exploring more about Reiki for dogs (or other animals in your life), you can find a list of practitioners by state at Animal Reiki Source's "Practitioner Directory". Practitioners listed with a pawprint/horseshoe next to their names have trained with Kathleen Prasad.
The site also contains many inspirational stories about how Reiki has helped all sorts of animals, from Koi fish and rabbits to birds, horses and dogs.
I am so excited about my journey into Reiki for dogs and look forward to how it will enhance my dog communication instincts, as well as my ability to communicate with all animals. I also hope to have the opportunity to treat all kinds of animals with this loving, gentle form of energy healing.
