Lola's Reaction

by Jamie
(Geneva, IL)

My Dog Lola is a Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix. She had never had problems with shots until her 4th birthday. I took her to the vet to get her usual shots. About a week and a half later she started to throw up and have loose stools. Then there was blood in her stools and vomit. I took her right to the vet and after $600.00 worth of testing could not determine the cause. They thought it might be a case of pancreatitis, but were not sure. About 2 weeks later Lola was healthy again.

The next year on her 5th birthday I took her back to get her yearly shots. Again, about a week and a half later Lola began vomiting. I rushed her to the vet and once again they could not determine the cause. I mentioned that this had happened the previous year at the exact same time, right after her shots. I asked if it was because of her shots and they said "well it could be...I guess".

They also thought maybe it was a flu bug. One week later Lola was healthy. Now it is Lola's 6th birthday and I took her to the vet to get her shots. I asked if she had to get the rabies shot and they said yes it is required by law BUT that they didn't have to do anything I wouldn't want. I decided to have her get only the rabies shot.

Here I am, a week and a half later, with a sick dog. This is the 3rd year in a row. I am 100% positive it is a reaction to the vaccines. I called the vet and they said that it is very unusual for a reaction a week later.

With that being said I will NOT get Lola vaccinated next year!
